| Freestyle Theatre is a performance venue that is open to anyone and anything. You can still present one-acts, but we want to see so much more—stand-up comedians, magicians, dance routines—show us your talents. Performance times may be as short as 10 minutes and as long as 30 minutes.
The Freestyle Theatre is open to any member troupe or individual. Each performance slot has 10 minutes to set and 5 minutes to strike. To register for a Freestyle Theatre performance slot, read the regulations, complete the acceptance sheet, and submit them according to the directions. Performance slots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis to those troupes that are fully registered for the Festival (registration forms and payment). Chapter Select Showcase is intended to be a platform for one-acts that are screened at chapter conferences and are recommended to perform at Festival. The one-acts will be presented in the Howell Theatre at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and are allowed forty-five minutes performance time, ten minutes to set, and five minutes to strike. To qualify, shows must be adjudicated at the chapter conferences by an evaluation team selected by the chapter director or governing board. The evaluation team may recommend one top-quality show (and an alternate in case the first school is unable to attend) for the Chapter Select Showcase from each chapter. These recommendations must be submitted to the home office by the chapter director. Recommended schools will receive the Chapter Select Showcase regulations and an acceptance sheet. The acceptance sheet must be submitted to the home office; upon receipt of the acceptance sheet, a performance slot will be tentatively assigned provided openings are still available. The performance assignment will be confirmed once the entire Festival registration and proof of royalty payment/permission forms are received at the home office. The four final scripts for Thespian Playworks will each need a cast so the play can be workshopped with the author, a director, and a dramaturg during Festival week. A staged reading of each play will be presented on Saturday afternoon.
