The International Thespian Company production of Hairspray was presented at Festival 2008. Based on the 1988 film by John Waters that starred Ricki Lake, Divine, and Sonny Bono, Hairspray tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a young woman with a bouffant hairdo from Baltimore who lands a spot on a local television dance show and quickly becomes a teen celebrity. A new version of the movie, slated to come out sometime next year, will feature performances by John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, and Billy Crystal. The musical comedy required a company of more than forty-five actors and technicians. Vance Fulkerson, director of music theatre for the University of Northern Colorado and an EdTA member, directed the show. Hairspray cast and crew:
